Deputy Director Yu Jun of the Beijing Institute of Genomics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences told the public on March 28th when he was a guest at the Capital Science Lecture Hall of Beijing's famous science popularization brand activity: "In 1984, when the Human Genome Project began, it took 3 billion to measure a human genome. With the rapid advancement and development of science and technology, it takes only 10,000 US dollars to measure a human genome today; it is expected that by 2020, 100 US dollars will be able to achieve a person's genome sequencing work." Deputy Director Yu Jun believes that with Genomic sequencing is becoming more and more convenient, and will accelerate the development of genetic testing and new biotech drugs and vaccines. Genetic testing will enable pre-bed diagnosis, prenatal diagnosis, newborn screening, carrier testing, diagnostic testing, pre-symptomatic testing, and predictive testing. Timely inspection and diagnosis will greatly reduce the contagious and mortality of the disease.
At present, genetic testing has been initially applied in the United States. According to Professor Yu Jun, in the applicable genetic testing, 1205 clinical tests were achieved, 510 were under evaluation, and 589 were in laboratory research. Among them, 1925 cases were used for disease detection. With the launch of disease genomics research, the discovery of single-gene genetic disease-related disease genes, the comprehensive linking of drug treatment and genetic testing, and the successful implementation of sequencing experiments on human individual genes, human beings finally entered the era of personalized healthcare. Healthcare will be targeted for individual genetic differences.
