Fertilization Management of Growing Winter Melon Cabbage

Before planting gourds, the central empty space in the loquat area should be thoroughly sun-dried. Apply 1,500 kg of pig manure, 25 kg of superphosphate, and 50 kg of compound fertilizer per mu as base fertilizer. After preparing the soil, cover it with mulch film and transplant seedlings at a spacing of 50 cm, aiming for approximately 800 plants per acre. Before and after fruiting, remove all side vines and allow the main vines to bear fruit. Once the fruits are set, leave 10 leaves on the main vine and then top it. During flowering periods, spray or drench the plants with 70% thiophanate-methyl diluted 1,000 times or 75% chlorothalonil diluted 800 times to control diseases such as fusarium wilt, anthracnose, and cotton rot. Additionally, apply 90% trichlorfon at 1,000 times dilution or 1,500 times dimethoate solution to prevent pests like aphids, flea beetles, and leafhoppers. Before planting vegetables, deep plowing should be done on both sides of the melon rows. Use 2,000 kg of farm manure, 25 kg of superphosphate, or 50 kg of triple compound fertilizer per acre as base fertilizer. Cover the cabbage seedlings with shading nets or awnings. Transplant seedlings that are about 30 days old, with a spacing of 33 cm x 33 cm. After planting, loosen the soil and apply a light top dressing. Keep the soil consistently moist. To treat black rot, use 500 times diluted liquid of a bactericide or 3,000 times diluted agricultural streptomycin. For pest control, mix solutions such as Dt, CPT, card dead grams, and Minqing Ling to target diamondback moth, aphids, cabbage caterpillars, and Spodoptera litura. In mid-August, transplant seedlings to grow green vegetables. At the end of August, after harvesting melons and cabbages, immediately till the land and apply 1,500–2,000 kg of compost per acre. Plant seedlings about 30 days later, with a row spacing of 20 cm x 20 cm. After planting, apply a 10–20% concentration of human urine. Once new leaves appear, apply two rounds of 30% faecal water. When the plants reach 25–30 cm in height, apply 50% concentrated faecal water at 1,500–2,000 kg per acre. This comprehensive approach ensures healthy growth and effective pest management throughout the growing season.
