In the autumn before the feed, feed the feed with higher fat content, promote the accumulation of fat in the body of the turtle, make good preparation for hibernation. Juvenile soft-shelled turtles generally start to stop eating when the water temperature drops to 16°C in November. Overwintering ponds can use outdoor turtle ponds with deeper water levels, making it safer to use wintering turtles in winter. The indoor pool water can be drained first to catch the pool of juvenile fish, then add a layer of 30 cm to 40 cm thick mud, and fill the water to 5 cm to 10 cm deep. The juveniles (including the outdoor nursery and the juveniles in the cage) are then placed in the pond at a stocking density of 100 to 250 per square meter. When the water temperature drops below 12°C, the juveniles drill into the mud. If the water temperature is too low, warm water can be gradually added to enhance the vitality of the juvenile fish and make it drill deeper. When all the turtles are drilled into the mud, the pool water can be filled and bamboo curtains are placed on the top of the pool. The straw is covered with a layer of rice straw insulation of 20 cm to 30 cm thick. In April of the next year, when the water temperature rises to 16°C, put the water in shallow water and leave it 5 cm to 10 cm deep so that the juvenile fish can be unearthed on their own.
Avoid overheating or excessive room temperature during wintering. When it is too low, it will make the pool water ice and cause hypoxia. At this time, it should be properly warmed; when it is too high, the metabolism of the young turtle will be strong and affect hibernation. The room temperature is generally controlled at 0°C~8°C during winter.
