Summer Lettuce Seedling Technology

Proper seeding and sowing techniques are essential to ensure uniform plant density. Before planting, it's recommended to water the area once to prepare the soil. The seed rate should be around 3 to 3.5 grams per square meter. After sowing, a shade net should be placed over the ground to help cool and moisten the soil. Once the seedlings emerge, the shade net can be carefully removed to allow for natural growth.

During the summer, seedlings require careful management to protect them from heavy rain, high temperatures, and drought. Using a rainproof nursery or covering the seedlings with a shade net can provide effective protection. On sunny days, the shade net is typically installed in the morning, around 8 a.m., and removed by 4 p.m. It can be left on at night or during cloudy days to maintain optimal growing conditions. In dry weather, watering should be done in the early morning and late evening to reduce evaporation and keep the soil consistently moist. Additionally, foliar feeding can be applied along with watering. A solution of 0.3% potassium dihydrogen phosphate is recommended for this purpose to enhance plant health and growth.

Regular monitoring of the seedlings is also important to detect any signs of stress or disease early. Ensuring proper air circulation and avoiding overwatering can further support healthy development. By following these practices, growers can significantly improve the survival rate and overall quality of the seedlings.
