Transformation of low yield pomegranate

In the summer, tree boards are trimmed to maintain proper growth. After the last trimming, a 20-centimeter layer of grass or wheat straw is placed on the tree base. A small amount of soil is then pressed over it and turned inward during early spring of the following year. Before winter begins, after harvesting, a basal fertilizer is applied using a ditch method, with the ditch depth ranging from 30 to 35 centimeters. The fertilizer mixture includes 3,000 kilograms of farmyard manure, 3 kilograms of superphosphate, and 2 kilograms of compound fertilizer. Prior to the emergence of flower buds, each tree receives 0.5 kilograms of diammonium phosphate. During the fruit expansion phase, each plant is given 0.5 kilograms of diammonium phosphate, 0.5 kilograms of peanut cake fertilizer, 2 kilograms of superphosphate, and 2 kilograms of compound fertilizer. Watering is done once before the flower buds appear and again after top-dressing. Pruning is an essential part of tree management. Most trees are shaped into a natural semi-circular cluster. In summer, techniques such as branch pulling and thinning are used to open up the main branches to angles between 60 and 70 degrees. For side branches and auxiliary shoots, their positions are adjusted to optimize space. During the fruit enlargement period, rubbing branches and some leaves near the fruits are pruned. In winter, the main stems and large fruit-bearing branches are shortened to stronger growth points, leaving "Mianwang" branches to fill in spaces while removing dense or overlapping branches. In the following spring, any excess shoots that emerge after pruning are promptly removed, along with overly dense branches. Flower and fruit management is crucial for quality yield. At the start of flowering, a solution containing 0.3% potassium dihydrogen phosphate, 300 times diluted urea, and 0.3% borax is sprayed every 10 days for 2–3 applications. During the flower bud stage, two rings are cut on the middle and lower parts of Wangshu branches where flowering is sparse, spaced 4–10 centimeters apart. Unhealthy or incomplete flowers and buds are removed promptly. After fruit set, any deformed, late, or pest-infested fruits are also removed. When the fruit diameter reaches about 2 centimeters, an insecticide and fungicide are sprayed, followed by covering the fruit with a 25 cm x 20 cm plastic bag. The bag is removed when the fruit is ready for harvest.
