Farm Machinery "Winter" Storing

1. Clean the machine thoroughly to remove dirt, oil, and debris. Ensure that all lubrication points are properly filled with the appropriate lubricating oil, and check the body for any signs of rust or corrosion. Applying a protective coating can help prevent damage over time. Proper maintenance not only extends the lifespan of the equipment but also reduces the risk of costly repairs or replacements.

2. Store the machine in a dry, well-ventilated, and sheltered area—such as a covered garage or shed—that protects it from rain, sunlight, and moisture. Avoid leaving it outdoors where it could be exposed to harsh weather conditions. Additionally, ensure the storage area is secure to prevent theft and fire hazards, and always keep the equipment in a safe and organized manner.

3. In cold winter conditions, after completing work, drain all cooling water from the engine to prevent freezing. This applies to tractors, agricultural vehicles, and combine harvesters that are temporarily stored or left unused for extended periods. Open the radiator valve, cylinder water jacket drain, and water tank cover, and manually turn the crankshaft before storing the machine. This helps to fully drain the system and avoid internal damage caused by ice expansion.

4. Before starting the machine in icy or snowy conditions, first open the water valve and fill the tank with warm water (around 70°C) until hot water flows out of the discharge valve. Then close the drain valve and add water at about 90°C. When driving on slippery roads, reduce speed significantly and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles and pedestrians. Always slow down when turning and avoid sudden braking or high-speed driving to prevent skidding or accidents.

5. Regularly clean the fuel system to ensure optimal performance. In winter, use diesel with a cloud point 5–10°C lower than the local temperature to prevent gelling. Choose engine oil with a viscosity grade suitable for cold weather, typically an 8-weight oil or lower. Before refueling, allow the diesel to settle for 48–96 hours and filter it through a fine silk mesh to remove impurities. This helps protect the engine and ensures smooth operation in cold conditions.
