Farm Machinery "Winter" Storing

1. Clean the machine thoroughly to remove dirt, oil, and debris. Ensure that all lubrication points are properly filled with the appropriate lubricating oil, and check the paintwork for any damage to prevent rust and corrosion. Proper maintenance can significantly extend the equipment's lifespan and reduce unnecessary repair costs and investment losses.

2. Store the machine in a dedicated, enclosed space that is protected from rain, sunlight, and moisture. The area should be well-ventilated and dry. Never leave the equipment outdoors, as it increases the risk of theft, fire, and damage. Always ensure proper security measures are in place to protect your valuable machinery.

3. In cold winter conditions, after completing work, drain all cooling water from the engine to prevent freezing. This applies to tractors, agricultural vehicles, and combine harvesters that are temporarily stored or not used for extended periods. Open the radiator valves, cylinder water jacket drain valves, and water tank covers, then crank the engine to expel any remaining water. This helps avoid internal damage caused by ice expansion during freezing temperatures.

4. Before starting the engine in cold weather, first open the water valve and fill the tank with warm water (around 70°C) until hot water flows out of the discharge valve. Then close the drain valve and add water at about 90°C. When driving on icy or snowy roads, always reduce speed and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles and pedestrians. Slow down when turning and avoid sudden steering movements. Never drive at high speeds or make emergency brakes, as this can lead to loss of control and accidents due to slippery surfaces.

5. Regularly clean the fuel system to ensure it remains free from contaminants. In winter, use diesel with a cloud point at least 5–10°C lower than the local temperature to prevent gelling. Use engine oil with a viscosity grade suitable for cold weather, typically an 8-weight oil. Before filling the fuel tank, let the diesel settle for 48–96 hours, then filter it through a fine silk mesh to remove impurities. This helps maintain engine performance and prevents fuel-related issues in cold conditions.
