Recently, researchers at the Kriss Institute (TSRI) in Florida, USA, discovered a new synthetic compound called SR1848. This compound can effectively slow the development of pancreatic cancer and breast cancer by inhibiting the synthesis and activity of a tumor-associated protein, "LRH-1". The study was published in the February issue of Molecular Pharmacology.

LRH1 is considered a risk factor for breast cancer because it is involved in hormone synthesis and cholesterol metabolism. Recently, LRH-1 has also been shown to promote the development of intestinal and pancreatic cancer. Overexpression of LRH-1 has been shown to promote tumor invasion and metastasis.

The new compound SR1848 synthesized by the research team can directly inhibit the activity of LRH-1. When cells were transfected, SR1848 inhibited the expression of LRH-1-driven reporter genes, and the production of two other cyclins Cyclin-D1 and E1, which are dependent on LRH-1 expression, was also significantly reduced, thereby inhibiting cell proliferation. . Experiments have shown that SR1848 can induce rapid translocation of LHR-1 already produced in the nucleus to the cytoplasm. The level of nuclear in the cells of LHR-1 was significantly reduced 4 hours after SR1848 treatment.

The results indicate that SR1848 can inhibit the proliferation of LRH-1 expressing cancer cells such as breast cancer cells and pancreatic cancer cells, which provides a new possibility for the treatment of breast cancer and pancreatic cancer. On the other hand, because it does not significantly affect cells that do not express LRH-1, this may mean some potential side effects.
