Awkward spring shearing method

First, pruning for thinning. Start by removing dead, pest-infested, damaged, or inward-growing branches. Then, cut back dense branches to improve air circulation and light penetration. When thinning fruiting branches, begin with the lower, weaker, and less productive ones, followed by the upper and middle branches. If the canopy is still too dense, selectively remove two of the most crowded branches, spacing the remaining fruiting branches 5–6 cm apart. Ensure that the remaining branches are strong, vigorous, and well-oriented for optimal growth.

Second, managing long shoots. Leggy shoots growing along the main branches should be left as extension branches and lightly pruned to control their direction and maintain balance. If there are gaps near these shoots, they can be shortened and trained into fruiting branches, helping to expand the tree's crown and increase fruit-bearing area. However, any leggy shoots that are unproductive should be removed completely from the base to avoid unnecessary energy drain.

Third, rejuvenating old fruiting branches. After two years of fruiting, many branches on Lycium (Goji) plants may show reduced productivity. To revitalize them, make short cuts of 3–5 cm at the tips. In spring, when new growth appears, select a healthy, well-positioned bud and use a technique called "heart cultivation" to encourage it to develop into a new fruiting branch.

Fourth, updating weak fruiting branches. Different varieties of Lycium have varying fruiting abilities—some can bear fruit for two seasons, while others only produce small fruits at the top or become weak over time. Weak fruiting branches often show signs like brownish shoots and very short growth. These branches need to be updated promptly. For moderately weak branches, cut back about half of the length; for weak ones, cut two-thirds; and for very weak or drooping branches, leave only 5–6 cm. The goal is to make light, strategic cuts rather than heavy ones, to promote new growth without stressing the plant excessively.

Overall, proper pruning not only improves the structure and health of the plant but also enhances fruit quality and yield. It’s important to observe the plant regularly and adjust your pruning techniques based on its condition and growth patterns. This careful, thoughtful approach ensures long-term productivity and vitality in your Lycium plants.

Pelvic External Fixation

There are two kinds of external fixations for pelvic fractures, namely temporary fixation and therapeutic fixation.

Temporary fixation depends on on-site assistance. Assuming that the patient has serious open injury, severe hemorrhagic shock, and serious fracture dislocation, the rescue personnel will provide temporary external fixation support to maintain the stability of the pelvis, reduce secondary injuries, and correct the continuous aggravation of hemorrhagic loss on the scene. The therapeutic external fixation stent is used to correct the dislocation of the fracture through routine examination after admission, evaluation of the injury, and external fixation installation through treatment, maintain the relative stability of the fracture, create a very quiet environment for the fracture healing, and lay the foundation for the healing of the fracture. External fixation is an important method for pelvic fractures.
