Potassium chloride also benefits, with its utilization rising from 31% to 35% to 57% to 61% when applied correctly. Deep nitrogen fertilizer application is another important practice. By placing nitrogen fertilizers deeper into the soil, farmers can reduce nutrient loss due to volatilization or leaching, thereby increasing nitrogen use efficiency. For instance, when ammonium bicarbonate is applied at the surface, its nitrogen utilization is just 28.6%, but deep application raises this to 58.6%. Urea, when applied normally, has a 42% efficiency, but deep placement can push it above 80%. This method also helps avoid issues like leaf burn or toxicity, especially with sensitive fertilizers like ammonium bicarbonate. Lastly, centralized application focuses on allocating limited fertilizers to fields with lower productivity. Field trials have shown that applying the same amount of urea and potassium chloride to high-, medium-, and low-yield areas leads to varying results. On average, each kilogram of urea increased rice production by 3.5 kg in high-yield fields, 5.8 kg in medium-yield fields, and 8.8 kg in low-yield fields. This strategy ensures that resources are used more effectively where they are needed most, leading to better overall farm performance.
