The Disease Control Techniques of Wheat Seed in This Fall in Tianjin

In recent years, the occurrence of new wheat diseases and pests has become increasingly frequent in Tianjin, with some previously minor pests now emerging as major threats. Underground pests and wheat midges are showing a growing trend. In response to this situation, the following recommendations have been made for the prevention and control of wheat pests and diseases this autumn: First, it is essential to enhance monitoring of wheat pests and diseases. After sowing, thorough monitoring should be conducted for underground pests such as wireworms and cockroaches, as well as wheat midges. The population levels of these pests in different fields need to be accurately assessed, and targeted pest control measures should be implemented in areas with high infestation levels during the autumn season. Second, the application of pesticide seed treatments is strongly recommended. This year, the occurrence of underground pests in the city is close to normal levels and is considered moderate. To effectively manage both pests and diseases, it is important to apply seed treatments before sowing this fall. The following methods are suggested: 1. For controlling ground pests such as wireworms, cockroaches, and other similar insects: Use 50% phoxim at a rate of 0.5 kg per 25–50 kg of water, then mix with 250–500 kg of wheat seeds. Alternatively, use 40% methyl isopropyl EC at 0.5 kg per 400–500 kg of seeds, or apply 48% emulsifiable seed treatment at 0.2% of the seed weight. All treated seeds should be soaked for 4–6 hours before sowing. 2. For preventing wheat diseases such as powdery mildew, rust, sheath blight, scattered black ear, and others: Apply 25% triadimefon wettable powder at 0.1% of the seed weight, or use 50% carbendazim, 33% penicillin, 12.5% wolfberry fruit, or 10% hydroxycamptosine at 0.2–0.3% of the seed weight. Mix the seeds thoroughly and allow them to soak for 6 hours before planting. These measures aim to reduce the risk of pest and disease outbreaks, ensuring healthier wheat crops and better yields in the coming season. Farmers are encouraged to follow these guidelines closely and adjust based on local conditions and expert advice.
