Grafting fruit saplings winter management skills

The newly grafted fruit tree seedlings, due to the wound healing, have poor stress resistance and are prone to frost damage in winter. In order to ensure safe wintering of newly grafted fruit trees, the following technical measures should be taken.

Timely burial of frozen water Before the soil freezes, use a plough to open the seedbed trails or furrows or manually dig a ditch, and then pour the frozen water down along the ditch. Therefore, when the soil begins to freeze, it contributes to the soil insulation and maintains sufficient moisture in the soil to meet the water consumption of the fruit trees during the winter.

Root-neck soil is used to cultivate 20 cm high ripening roots of the grafted fruit tree seedlings before freezing to prevent freezing of the root system to facilitate safe wintering of the seedlings.

Set cold prevention barriers according to the terrain of the nursery, use corn stalks before soil freezing, set a windbreak every 23 seedbeds (or seedlings), or pile up a 50 cm high mound on the northwest side of the young seedlings. Windproof.

The seedlings shall be coated with 5 kg of quicklime and 0.5 kg of salt, respectively, and they shall be opened with water. After mixing and stirring, 0.5 kg of vegetable oil and 0.5 kg of lime sulfur mixture shall be added to prepare a whitening agent, which shall be painted or sprinkled on the seedlings before the soil is frozen. The surface of the whole sapling is white or gray, which can reflect sunlight, prevent rapid temperature changes, enhance cold resistance, and effectively prevent and treat diseases and insects that overwinter on the trunk.
