Guangdong organ transplantation once again achieved a major breakthrough. On the 26th, the reporter learned from the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University. Recently, Professor Xiaoshun He, a dean of the First Hospital of Zhongshan University and a leader of the organ transplant center, successfully implemented the world's first “ischemic†renal transplantation. This is the first time that the team has implemented the world's first "ischemic" liver transplant surgery in July 2017. It has for the first time applied the concept of "immunoischemia-free" organ transplantation and technology successfully applied to the field of renal transplantation.
According to reports, the first “ischemic†renal transplant recipient was a 47-year-old male patient from Dongguan. The operation was completed in just 3 hours. The patient ate as usual on the third day after surgery and was discharged from hospital recently.
Professor He Xiaoshun said that the application of the “no-ischemic†transplantation technique in kidney transplantation is the most important feature that improves patient outcomes. As China’s citizens’ organ donations are donated behind the scenes, the quality of donor organs is damaged to varying degrees. The incidence of insufficiency is about 30%. In traditional kidney transplants, blood flow is interrupted and organs are cold preserved during organ harvesting. These injuries are exacerbated by such factors as post-transplantation reperfusion, and patients are at risk of postoperative complications and subsequent immune reactions. The "ischemic" transplantation technology fundamentally solves these problems. "When an organ is harvested, its blood flow is not interrupted, and its function will not be affected."
The success of the operation is another major technological breakthrough in the field of organ transplantation, marking the transition from the traditional “cold transplant†to the “hot transplant†era after the liver transplant following liver transplantation, and at the same time demonstrating that He Xiaoshun’s team initiated “no ischemiaâ€. "The concept and technology already have the conditions that are widely used in other areas of organ transplantation. Next, the technology will also be applied to other organ transplants such as heart and lungs. (Reporter Feng Xixi, correspondents Peng Fuxiang, He Xupeng)
