[Heavy] American Cancer Society released 2017 cancer statistics report

A few days ago, the American Cancer Society published 2017 cancer statistics in the CA: A Cancer Journal for Clinicians (influence factor 138), a comprehensive and up-to-date annual report on cancer morbidity, mortality and survival, and published a paper Edition 2017 Cancer Facts and Figures. Statistics show that the overall decline in cancer mortality in the United States has steadily declined over the past two decades, which has finally reduced this figure by 25%, which means that the number of cancer deaths decreased by 2.1 million between 1991 and 2014.

The report estimates that in 2017, there will be 1,688,780 new cancer cases and 600,920 cancer deaths in the United States. Available data for the past decade show that women's overall cancer incidence is stable, with men dropping about 2% per year, while male and female cancer rates are down about 1.5% per year.

Trends in cancer mortality in the United States from 1975 to 2014 (by gender)

Cancer mortality has fallen from a peak of 215.1 (per 100,000 people) in 1991 to 161.2 (per 100,000 people) in 2014. This decline is the result of continued decline in smoking and early detection and treatment of cancer, and is driven by a decline in mortality in four major cancer sites: lung cancer (43% decline between 1990 and 2014, between 2002 and 2014) Women fell 17%), breast cancer (down 38% from 1989 to 2014), prostate cancer (down 51% from 1993 to 2014) and colorectal cancer (down 51% from 1976 to 2014).

The report also found significant gender differences in morbidity and mortality. Combined with all parts, men have a 20% higher incidence of cancer than women, and men have a 40% higher cancer mortality rate.

The gender gap in cancer mortality primarily reflects differences in the distribution of cancer in men and women, most of which is due to differences in the prevalence of cancer risk factors. For example, liver cancer is a highly lethal cancer that occurs three times more frequently in men than in women, partly reflecting higher rates of hepatitis C infection, historical smoking rates, and excessive drinking rates among men. The largest gender differences are reflected in esophageal cancer, laryngeal cancer and bladder cancer, and their morbidity and mortality are about four times higher in men. The incidence of melanoma is about 60% higher in men than in women, and melanoma mortality is more than double that of men in women.
