Thursday Night Quickie

I've been meaning to sit down and write something meaningful for a while now. Actually, it's been on my mind for weeks, maybe even months. Life has been a whirlwind since we packed up and moved across the country to this new, exciting place. It’s beautiful here—full of fresh starts and endless possibilities. But it’s also been a challenge. We’re still in the process of settling into our new home and finding our rhythm as a family while hosting guests. It’s chaotic, but in a good way. Our old house had such great natural lighting—it was almost poetic. Morning sunlight streamed through the windows in my bedroom, casting golden hues across the wooden floors. The living room glowed with sunlight all day long, and the kids' rooms were filled with warm afternoon light. Those conditions made taking pictures a breeze. Now, things are different. In our new place, the evening sun peeks through the patio doors, and the living room gets similar lighting, but it’s not quite the same. Finding the right light for photos has become its own little adventure, and I’m enjoying the challenge. It’s like solving a puzzle, and I can’t wait to figure it out. Writing, though—that’s another story. I’ve been trying to carve out time to put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard), but it’s tough. Between managing household responsibilities, balancing quality time with each of the kids, and dealing with the occasional pang of mom guilt when life throws curveballs, it’s hard to stay focused. There are moments when I’m juggling dinner prep and emails, or trying to squeeze in some work during a brief lull between activities. It’s not always easy, but I’m learning to embrace the chaos. The truth is, “new” feels overwhelming at times. It’s like stepping into uncharted territory without a map. But there’s beauty in the struggle. I’m discovering where to find the light—not just in photography, but in everything. Whether it’s creating moments of connection with my family, navigating unexpected challenges, or simply finding joy in the little things, I’m learning to adapt. And while it might take some time to get back into a consistent writing groove, I know it will happen. I just need to keep pushing forward, one step at a time. This whole experience has taught me resilience, patience, and the importance of embracing change. Moving is never easy, but it’s given us a chance to start fresh. And while I miss the comfort of familiarity, I’m excited about the future. After all, every new chapter brings its own unique opportunities—and sometimes, that’s all you need to keep going. So, here’s to finding the light in every situation, whether it’s in the glow of a camera lens or the warmth of family moments. It’s not always perfect, but it’s real—and that’s enough for now.
