Thursday Night Quickie
A Thursday Night Quickie, originally uploaded by Tabitha Blue / Fresh Mommy.

It's funny how life throws curveballs at you when you least expect them. Lately, I've been trying to sit down and write something meaningful, something that could resonate with others, but every time I attempt to put pen to paper—or fingers to keyboard—I get distracted. Between hosting houseguests who've traveled across the country to visit us in our new home and the chaos of establishing a rhythm for our family in this unfamiliar environment, there hasn't been much time for introspection. But you know what? I wouldn’t trade it for anything. There’s something incredibly energizing about reinventing yourself and your space. Our old place had natural light galore—morning rays streaming through bedroom windows, golden afternoons filling the kids’ rooms, and living room floors glowing under sunlight from floor-to-ceiling windows. Those were easy settings for photography, but here in our new abode, capturing moments has become a bit of a puzzle. The evening sun now peeks through our patio doors, offering soft, warm tones, but beyond that, it’s been trial and error. It’s humbling to realize how dependent I’d grown on those perfect lighting conditions back home. Yet, this struggle has reignited my passion for creativity. I’m learning to adapt and discover hidden gems within the shadows and highlights of our current setting. It’s not just about finding the light—it’s about finding inspiration in unexpected places. And then there’s the balancing act of being a mom. Juggling special moments with each child feels like walking a tightrope some days. One minute, I’m enjoying a quiet moment reading bedtime stories, and the next, I’m scrambling to answer emails or take calls about freelance projects. Mommy guilt can creep in easily, especially when deadlines loom or opportunities arise. But lately, I’ve started carving out little pockets of productivity during lulls—like squeezing in a couple of hours of work between meals or nap times. It’s a delicate dance, but one I’m determined to master. This whole experience has taught me resilience. I’ve learned to embrace uncertainty and view challenges as stepping stones rather than roadblocks. Whether it’s finding the right angle for a photo shoot or navigating the ups and downs of parenthood, I’m growing stronger every day. And while the words might still feel elusive, I know they’ll come. For now, I’ll keep pushing forward, because sometimes the best stories are the ones written amidst the chaos. There’s beauty in the process, even when it doesn’t feel like it. And maybe that’s the lesson here—to cherish the journey as much as the destination.
