Feathers are unique derivatives of poultry skin. The newly hatched chicks are covered with evenly slender hairs; adult healthy poultry feathers are compact, flat, smooth and shiny. Diseased birds are upright, fluffy, filthy, lack luster, and premature or delayed moulting. The visible changes in feathers are:
1. Feather fluffy, dirty and dull. This situation is more common in paratyphoid fever, chronic fowl cholera, colibacillosis, tsutsugamushi disease, tsutsugamushi disease, trematode disease, vitamin A deficiency, vitamin B1 deficiency and so on.
2. Feather fluffy, upright. This situation is more common in fevers and chills caused by hot infectious diseases, such as Newcastle disease and infectious bursal disease.
3. The feather becomes brittle, broken, and falls off. This situation is more common in poultry flea, ectoparasitic diseases, zinc deficiency, biotin deficiency, etc. It can also be seen in poultry's own feathers. Cage chicken neck feathers fall off is the result of friction with the cage.
4. Poor or faded feathers. This situation is more common in folic acid deficiency, but also in pantothenic acid deficiency, vitamin D deficiency.
5. The edges of the rachis are curled and small nodules are formed. This situation is more common in zinc deficiency, vitamin B2 deficiency or some viral infections.
6. Yu Yu. When this condition was checked, the feathers of the head, under the wings, and under the abdomen were turned over by the hand, and it was seen that the feathers, fluff or skin, which were light yellow or gray-white needlepoints, crawled.
7. Purebred birds grow heterochromatic feathers. This situation is more common in the genetic variation of poultry, the lack of some nutrients (such as iron, copper, folic acid, vitamin D, etc.).
8. Feather growth is delayed. This situation is more common in the lack of folic acid, pantothenic acid, biotin, zinc, selenium and so on.
