On November 7, an expert from the High Technology Research and Development Bureau of the Chinese Academy of Sciences coordinated with researchers from Shanghai Lulong and the Beijing Institute of Chemistry, led by Professor Wang Meixiang, to jointly submit a proposal for the "Oriented Research on the Development of Green Chemical Pesticides." This project is a key initiative under the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Knowledge Innovation Program. A feasibility study was conducted to evaluate the potential and direction of the research.
An expert panel, including Academician Li Zhengming from the National Pesticide Engineering Center at Nankai University and Academician Cai Daoji from the Nanjing Institute of Environmental Sciences under the State Environmental Protection Administration, thoroughly reviewed the project's feasibility report. They also listened to presentations from the project team and engaged in detailed discussions about the necessity and practicality of the project. The experts provided valuable suggestions on potential challenges during the research process, as well as strategies to address them. They emphasized the importance of independent innovation within the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the need for strong research platforms to support such initiatives.
The expert group concluded that this project aligns closely with the nation’s major strategic needs. By focusing on different stages of new pesticide development, especially the discovery and structural optimization of lead compounds, the research holds significant theoretical and practical value for enhancing China's pesticide production capabilities.
The project leverages the strengths of participating institutions in molecular design, computer-aided drug design, organic synthesis, biocatalysis, heterocyclic chemistry, and organofluorine chemistry. It aims to develop novel heterocyclic synthesis methods, optimize compound structures, study structure-activity relationships, investigate mechanisms of action, environmental fate, and screen for new pesticide lead compounds with independent intellectual property rights. The goal is to create promising candidate compounds and new pesticide varieties with strong market potential. The research content is highly innovative and has great promise for future applications.
