A Novel Method to Measure Balance in Children with Cerebral Palsy

Certainly! Here's the rewritten content in English: --- As someone who works closely with children facing biomechanical challenges, particularly those with motor disabilities such as Cerebral Palsy (CP), paying attention to every detail is crucial. Technology plays a significant role here, allowing clinicians to leverage objective data to make informed decisions that support a child’s improvement in balance. Force plates have long been a standard tool for evaluating static standing balance. However, high-resolution pressure-sensitive mats, like the Tekscan HR™ Mat, are now gaining traction as an effective alternative for conducting these assessments. Research has demonstrated that these mats provide comparable results to force plates while offering additional benefits such as convenience, portability, and affordability. In a recent presentation during the lerEXPO event, Christina Bickley (PT, PhD, BOCO, C/NDT) shared her latest findings on using plantar pressure mats for both typically developing children and those with CP. The study concluded that this technology serves as a dependable and accurate method for measuring standing balance in young patients. Plans are underway to further explore the potential applications of this technology. If you're interested in learning more about this fascinating topic, check out the full webinar below!
