Here's my take: The 35th Anniversary Edition, co-authored by Rose Levy Beranbaum and Woody Wolston, came out on the 22nd. For context, the original version hit shelves in 1988 and contained 320 recipes spanning 592 pages. This updated edition is even more impressive, featuring 684 pages with 386 recipes. The original received numerous accolades, including the IACP Cookbook of the Year (1988), a James Beard award for Baking & Desserts, and the IACP Culinary Classic award in 2017. This new edition boasts fresh photographs and reflects 35 years of refinement based on Rose’s experience and feedback from readers. As usual, the book includes both weight and volume measurements (one of the first in the U.S.), along with comprehensive, step-by-step instructions for every recipe. It also features countless conversion charts, tips for success, and variations for many tried-and-true recipes. Rose honors her legacy by including the original foreword by Maida Heatter and a new one penned by Ron Ben-Israel. The book is organized into sections covering Cakes, Showcase Cakes, Wedding and Special Occasion Cakes, Frostings and Decorations, Special Effects and Techniques, and concludes with chapters on Ingredients and Equipment.
