Xinhua News Agency, Wuhan, January 19 (Reporter Tan Yuanbin) As a kind of sand virus, Lassa virus is a strong infectious disease with a very high mortality rate. There are no specific drugs and vaccines. Chinese researchers have recently successfully screened inhibitors that block the invasion of Lassa virus, and have broad-spectrum antiviral activity against arenaviruses.
The reporter learned from the Wuhan Institute of Virology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences on the 18th that the Xiao Gengfu research group and the Nankai University School of Pharmacy and the Tianjin International Biomedical Joint Research Institute completed the screening.
According to reports, the Lassa virus belongs to the genus of the genus Salvia virus and the mammalian genus, which causes the strong infectious disease, Lassa fever, and is classified as a Class A bioterrorism path by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Lassa virus is mainly prevalent in West Africa. About 300,000 to 500,000 people are infected every year. The mortality rate among inpatients is up to 70%. Survivors are often accompanied by severe sequelae such as deafness.
This study provides a candidate emergency drug technology reserve for dealing with the outbreak of the arena virus, and provides a theoretical basis and optimization strategy for the drug development of anti-sand virus. Currently, relevant papers have been published online in the international journal Protein and Cell.
