How to change pots for succulents

Under long-term artificial cultivation conditions, the roots of succulent plants fill the entire flowerpot, which is not conducive to drainage and air permeability, and the loss of soil nutrients, from the original pellet into powder, the soil acidification, so when the plant grows to a certain stage You must turn basins and change soil.

In general, succulent plants are changed once every 1 to 3 years (some varieties of seedlings can even be transplanted several times a year, commonly known as 'move and move, big one'). Most varieties are generally changed from mid-March to early April, and some “winter species” that grow in winter and sleep in summer can also change basins from the end of August to the beginning of September. In short, the replacement time should be near the end of the dormancy period, when the plants are about to grow. Clustered plants can also be bred at the same time as the replacement of the pot. In addition, if you find that the plant has rot-root phenomenon, rescue pans can be performed at any time.

Change watering 3 to 5 days before changing pots. When changing the basin, the plants are first deducted from the basin and the roots are shaken clean. The old roots, rotten roots, and hollow roots were all cut off and the roots that were robust, full, and able to absorb were preserved. However, species with hypertrophic fleshy roots, such as cacti and peony, are not easy to excessively cut roots, because these fleshy roots store abundant nutrients. If they are overly pruned, they will affect growth and even severe rot. The whole plant died. If there are young plants next to the old plants, they can be plucked, and the roots should be properly trimmed to remove the dry leaves and plant them separately. If the cuts are too large, apply sulphur powder, charcoal powder, carbendazim or other antiseptic drugs to the wounds and allow them to dry for 3 to 7 days before the wounds are dried and then put on the pot.

When the new strain is planted, a layer of gauze should be placed on the drain hole at the bottom of the pot to prevent pests, and then the tiles should be covered in the gauze to facilitate drainage. Different varieties of succulent plants are planted in different culture soils. The bottom of the pots should be filled with coarse-grained soil, and then the fine-grained soil should be placed. The plants should be straightened, and the plants should be lifted while adding the soil to make the roots stretch. Do not add too much soil to facilitate watering later. After planting, the pots will be gently “plunged” on the ground, so that the soil and roots are tightly bound. It is not necessary to water immediately after planting. It has been proved that the roots of the plants are faster and better in the wet soil. Afterwards, when the potted soil is dry, it is appropriate to spray some water. After 7 to 10 days, it can be poured once. Planted plants should be kept in a bright place with no direct sunlight.
