At present, chemical herbicides have become very popular in agricultural production. Some farmers believe that weeds have been eliminated and there is no need for cultivating. In fact, herbicides can only eliminate weeds and cannot replace cultivators. In addition to weeding, cultivators have many other important functions.
The first is to increase soil aeration. Cultivated crops such as wheat, rapeseed, and cotton can increase soil aeration, increase oxygen content in the soil, increase crop respiration, and strengthen root absorption, resulting in lush growth.
The second is to increase soil nutrient content. The organic matter and mineral nutrients in the soil must be decomposed by the soil microorganisms before they can be absorbed and utilized by crops. Because most of the microorganisms in dry soil are aerobic, when the oxygen concentration in the soil is insufficient, the microbial activity is weak and the soil nutrients cannot be fully decomposed and released. After cultivating loose soil, the soil microorganisms are active due to the abundant oxygen, and they decompose and release the soil potential nutrients, which can increase the utilization of soil nutrients.
The third is to regulate soil moisture content. When cultivating in drought, it can cut off the capillary in the surface layer of the soil, reduce the moisture in the soil and transport it to the surface of the soil to lose evaporation, and improve the ability of the soil to resist drought.
The fourth is to increase soil temperature. The cultivating loose soil can loosen the soil, increase the light receiving area, absorb the solar radiation energy, weaken the heat dissipation capacity, and can make the heat transfer to the deep soil layer quickly and increase the soil temperature.
The fifth is to suppress leggy. When vegetative growth of crops is too prosperous, deep cultivators can cut off part of the root system, control the absorption of nutrients, and suppress leggy.
Sixth, it is a blend of soil and fertilizer. In the paddy fields, the top-dressing fertilizer can be mixed into the bottom layer to achieve the purpose of blending soil with fertilizer and evaporating mud. It can also eliminate harmful substances in the soil and prevent denitrification, promote the occurrence of new roots, improve absorption capacity, and increase delivery.
After applying chemical herbicides, different crops have different tillage times. Dry land crops such as rapeseed, wheat, cotton, and soybean should be applied 20 to 25 days after spraying, and paddy fields should be carried out 12 days after spraying, otherwise the chemical weeding effect will be affected.
