Stem cells can help the heart "rejuvenate"

In a new issue of the British Journal of Cardiology, American researchers reported that heart stem cells extracted from young hearts can reverse the aging process of the heart after injecting the aging heart.

Researchers at the Cedars-Sayna Heart Institute in the United States extracted cardiac stem cells from newly born experimental mice and injected them into the heart of an average of 22 months old rats. Another group of rats of the same age received placebo and was injected with normal saline in the heart. The 22-month-old experimental mouse is equivalent to the human old age.

The researchers compared the echocardiogram, blood test and exercise load test results of these experimental mice with young rats with an average age of 4 months. It was found that the heart function of a group of rats receiving cardiac stem cell injection was significantly improved. The ability has increased by an average of 20%.

The study also found that the telomeres in the heart cells of rats injected with cardiac stem cells also became longer, which meant that the lifespan of the cells was prolonged. Compared with the experimental mice that had not been injected with cardiac stem cells, the mice injected with cardiac stem cells developed new fur faster, indicating that cardiac stem cells can improve the hair loss caused by aging.

Researchers say they are currently unable to determine whether cardiac stem cells can prolong lifespan and whether stem cells from young donors will have rejuvenation effects, and further research is needed in the future.
