Alcohol-free drug "disulfiram" was found to have anti-cancer properties

An international research team led by scientists from the Institute of Molecular and Translational Medicine at the University of Olomouc Palatsky in the Czech Republic found that the drug-supply drug "disulfiram" has anti-cancer properties. A total of 30 researchers from Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, the United States, and Canada participated in the study.

The study, based on a study of Danish patients, who were diagnosed with cancer, were receiving alcohol withdrawal, and patients who continued to receive disulfiram had a significantly lower risk of death than those who discontinued.

The scientists also found that the disulfiram drug, called Antabuse, binds to copper in the human body and is metabolized to form another substance that accumulates in tumor cells and binds to NLP4 protein, causing it to be fixed. And lost functionality.

The study of active metabolites of disulfiram drugs is a breakthrough finding. Research on the role of disulfiram continues, as evidenced by a clinical study conducted by scientists at the institute and at Olomouc University Hospital. Currently, the study is open to patients with metastatic breast cancer.

For decades, disulfiram has been used as an alcohol withdrawal drug to help alcoholics avoid alcohol abuse, which was originally used to treat intestinal infections. (Technology Department)
